Survey Question:
The timing of this issue of Visions is such that we thought we'd poll our NEOHFMA members to see what you believe will be the outcome of the upcoming November Presidential election.
We will tally the results in aggregate to see how well we do at predicting who will be our next President of the United States. Your response is confidential.

President's Message October, 2004
Dear Fellow HFMA Members:
We are pleased to provide you with the 2004-2005 edition of the Northeast Ohio Chapter Membership Information Directory. Our chapter is one of the largest in the country and one of the few which has maintained its membership levels for three years in a row. The Directory includes useful information regarding chapter leadership and committees, |
the national HFMA structure, certification programs, and, most importantly, the roster of the almost 600 healthcare professionals who make up our Chapter.
|
The HFMA national theme this year is "Beyond the Numbers," which recognizes that the work we do doesn't stop with routine periodic financial reporting. The technical, professional, and analytical skills our members bring to their organizations reach into all aspects of their operations and drive the strategic planning that brings the best in healthcare services to our communities.
The backbone of HFMA is its educational activities. From the flagship Annual National Institute to the regional conferences held across the country throughout the year to the local programs offered by our own Chapter, HFMA offers a full range of education and training opportunities for healthcare professionals in all areas of healthcare finance. Our Chapter offers half-day programs throughout the course of the year covering a wide range of topics and the Gerry Haggerty Annual Leadership Institute, a comprehensive two-day conference held in the spring. I hope you will be able to take advantage of some of these offerings this year.

Our Chapter also offers social activities through its networking and membership committees. The annual holiday party and new member breakfast are just two events that give us an opportunity to gather on a more personal level and develop those important networking contacts.
The strength of any chapter lies in its volunteers. The Northeast Ohio Chapter is privileged to have many volunteers serving in leadership and on its many committees. We are always looking for new members to get involved and continue the long tradition of volunteer service that has been a hallmark of our Chapter for many years. Please don't hesitate to contact one of the Chapter officers or a committee chair if you are interested in serving. It's a little more work, but a lot more reward.
Best wishes to all of you for a successful year, both professionally and personally. I hope to see you at an upcoming HFMA event.
Sincerely,
Barry L. Franklin, C.P.A.
President

COMMITTEE CORNER
By Steve Rybka
Networking Committee: Mark the Date for Annual Awards and Holiday Party
The leaves are changing and the temperatures are dropping. When that happens, the Networking Committee is off and running to plan the 2004 NEOHFMA Annual Awards and Holiday Party. Recall that last year, the Networking Committee orchestrated a gala event at the brand new Heathspace Cleveland. It was a real success. Over 100 members and guests in attendence.
Now it's time to mark your calendar for this year's very special holiday event. The Networking Committee is taking our holiday event to one of Cleveland's premier dining locations - The Cleveland Play House Club, the elegant Dining Room in The Club is operated by the Cleveland Play House and has a theatrical ambiance that can't be matched anywhere in the area.
When: Thursday, December 2nd
Where: The Cleveland Play House Club
8500 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, Ohio
The event this year will center on dining, entertainment, music and fellowship with colleagues and guests from across the region. Annual Chapter Awards will be presented for all to celebrate.
Watch for more information. Your event invitation will be in the mail soon.

The historic, Gothic style Clubhouse offers world class dining, 74 luxurious overnight rooms, and a European Spa and Salon.
The highlight of Glenmoor Country Club is the Jack Nicklaus designed Signature Golf Course.
Join fellow HFMA members for professional development, networking, golf, and first class treatment in the European spa.

Santa's Trains
Do you know the answer to the following riddle? All correct entries will be included in a drawing and one lucky entrant will receive a $25.00 gift certificate to Target. Good luck!
Santa Clause sometimes helps the elves by making some toys. He's not as fast as the elves, but he can still make 30 toys each hour. In order to keep from getting bored, he starts each day by building 50 trains and then switches to building 50 airplanes. Then he switches back to trains and keeps switching back and forth until the day is finished. If Santa starts work at 8:00 am, when will he finish his 108th train?
Issue 5 Puzzle: Find the Number
Answer: 74658
Winner: Kelly Kaselak of Southwest General Hospital won a $25 gift certificate to Applebee's.
